Songwriting Competition

The US Presidential Election is taking place on November 8th. Who will gain control of the White House? This was a challenge to song-writers to write an appropriate song!

On the October 30th night, the Open Mic ran as normal with the addition of the songwriting competition at 8pm. All entrants put £5 in the hat and got to vote for one of the competition songs (just not their own entry)! The winner got all the hat money! It was a fun challenge!

There was a real air of excitement and anticipation about the songwriting competition on Sunday 30th October. One participant had come all the way from Farnham and brought along a number of avid fans. There were one or two who either hadn't written songs before or hadn't attempted to write a song for years! There were some very funny songs. I particularly liked Peter Crutchfield's very funny one! Sue Bigmore's super song was entitled "Lady and the Trump Man"! Ha ha!

Here is the winning song (below) entitled "Lady America" - embarrassingly my own but I did buy the participants a drink with the hat winnings!! Thanks to Martin Dyson for supplying the American flag to get us all in the right mood as well as the extra prize of an American flag pin!

Second place went to Sue Bigmore with "Lady and the Trump Man" and third place to Martin Dyson with "Is this America?".

Thanks also to Steve Hutchinson for doing the scoring and announcing the results (I'll pay you later Steve)!

There could well be more video coming, if participants want it made public!
